thrifting, for goodness: the home

In keeping with this week's theme of thrifting, courtesy of Katie Crackernuts' 1degree op shop challenge, here are some of my favourite thrift store finds. These are all from the Delta Hospice Society Cottage Thrift Store which, if you are ever in Vancouver or the surrounding area and like to check out charity shops, is definitely worth the jaunt into the little suburb of Tsawwassen. It's a pristine, quiet little town, and it's where I grew up!

This vase has the most amazing smooth and delicate shape. I've used it to store candy, display flowers and house a siamese fighting fish.

While I was looking at this serving platter a woman next to me said, "My daughter just bought the exact same thing for a wedding gift, and it was certainly not that price!" It's got a great weight to it, is my favourite shade of taupy-grey, and all the dishes are removable for easy refilling and cleaning. I also love the pattern along the edges.

This candy dish I picked up along with my bud vases, and I just adore it. I love anything in that retro green glass, and the honeycomb pattern and little handles make it so unique.

I have to admit, I have a love/hate on for this chair. I purchased it many years ago when I lived alone in a dingy basement suite that smelled like potato sacks simply because I needed it. My reason for not liking it is solely because of the upholstery. That old man plaid just grates on my nerves. But, it's in excellent condition, is very comfortable, has a handsome silhouette, and it serves as my office. One day when I re-upholster it, I will love it 100%.

This is my fruit bowl, and it holds my heart as well as my oranges. It's also made of that green glass I love so much, and the ropey texture and 70s style shape gives it so much to say.

I actually have a bunch more thrifting finds locked up in storage because they're Christmas decorations, but I'll share them with you when the time comes. Next up, second-hand clothing and accessories!

such great thrifted finds....i love glass vases that curve up at the top. not much of a flower arranger, so i love how they just fall into place in a vase like that :)

Nicole Marie, you are not the only one. The only reason I haven't thrown that chair away in the last 3 moves was because my guy LOVES it. So I've resigned. And in a way, the pattern kind of reminds me of a nice old English professor with elbow patches and a pipe.

Ahhh the joy of thrifting. That honeycomb green candy dish is fabulous. I would have picked that up too. Looks like a peridot gem.

I have had an attraction to turquoise jam or jelly jars lately. With a votive tucked in, they produce the best glimmer.

I love them all! and I must say, that chair is VERY comfortable. Even though it does look like Rodney Dangerfield's pants in "Caddyshack"
